Frequently Asked Questions

Find immediate answers regarding hardware compatibility, recipe deduction mechanics, AI-powered stock forecasting, product swaps, accounting, and deployment options.

What physical hardware does Katron support?
▾
Katron is hardware-agnostic and built on standard web standards. It works out-of-the-box with standard USB and Bluetooth barcode scanners (1D & 2D QR codes), 58mm and 80mm ESC/POS thermal receipt printers, electronic cash drawers, touchscreen all-in-one POS terminals, laptops, tablets, and desktop computers.
How does the AI-Powered Stock Forecasting engine predict product run-out dates?
▾
Katron incorporates a dedicated AI-Powered Stock Forecasting Engine that dynamically monitors cashier checkout velocity and ingredient consumption pace. By analyzing sales velocity alongside supplier lead times, the AI computes the exact expected date a product will run out of stock and triggers automated restock suggestions before shelves go empty. It also powers proactive low-stock alerts: Critical (≤ 2 units) and Low (≤ 4 units).
How does the Product Swap feature handle item exchanges at the till?
▾
If a customer brings an item back to swap for another, Katron handles it directly on the POS screen:

• Even Swap: If both items have identical selling prices, the transaction processes as an even exchange with $0 balance owed.
• Price Difference: If the new item costs more, Katron prompts the cashier to collect the difference; if the new item costs less, the system issues a refund or credit balance. Both item stock counts are reconciled automatically in real time.
How does recipe ingredient deduction work when cashiers ring up a sale?
▾
Katron offers two distinct deduction modes:

1. Deduct on POS Sale: Ideal for restaurants, fast-food outlets, and cafes. You define the exact ingredients required for a dish (e.g. 0.3kg Basmati Rice, 0.05L Oil, 1 Chicken Thigh). When the cashier scans or selects that dish at the POS, Katron silently reduces fractional quantities of each raw ingredient from the kitchen storeroom in real time.

2. Batch Production Assembly: Ideal for bakeries, confectioneries, and repackagers. Raw ingredients are deducted when a batch is baked or packaged (e.g., baking 50 loaves of bread or repackaging 50kg sugar into 1kg bags), crediting finished packaged goods to shelf inventory with yield tracking.
What reports are included in the Accounting Module?
▾
Katron includes a native double-entry accounting module featuring:

• Account Cashbook: Logs daily opening cash, register inflows, bank transfers, petty cash expenses, and closing drawer totals.
• Profit & Loss Statement (P&L): Computes gross sales, product returns, COGS, operational expenses, and net profit daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly.
• Trial Balance: Audit-proof reconciliation ensuring total debits equal total credits across all accounts.
Can I see personal sales per staff member and export sales records to PDF?
▾
Yes! Katron's dedicated Sales Records Page details personal sales per cashier as well as general storewide sales. You can inspect who made each sale, filter records by custom date ranges (e.g., specific shifts, weeks, or tax periods), and export a clean, printable PDF report with a single click.
How does Expiry Tracking and Stock History work?
▾
Katron provides a 90-Day (3-Month) Expiry Radar that automatically surfaces all perishable batches nearing expiration, giving you time to discount or rotate stock. Furthermore, Katron maintains two-tier stock history: an individual product history log detailing every addition, sale, swap, or return for that SKU, and a general storewide stock history page capturing all movements chronologically.
Can I manage multiple branch stores and transfer stock between them?
▾
Yes! Katron has native multi-branch support. You maintain a master product catalog while tracking individual inventory quantities and revenue for each branch. Inter-branch stock transfers allow you to safely move products from central warehouses to branch stores, complete with transfer verification logs and audit tracking. You can also organize products into categories and manage your supplier directory centrally.
How does the Staff Shift Lock prevent employee theft or off-hours manipulation?
▾
Katron allows administrators to configure official operational hours (e.g., 08:00 AM to 06:00 PM) in Company Settings. Cashiers and non-admin staff are strictly prevented from logging into the POS till or inventory screens outside these authorized hours, eliminating unauthorized transactions, tampering, or unrecorded night sales.
Can Katron be deployed on a local server or on the cloud?
▾
Both options are supported! For stores with intermittent internet connectivity, Katron can be deployed on a local in-store server running across local Wi-Fi or LAN cables. For businesses with reliable connectivity or multi-branch operations, Katron can be cloud-hosted for real-time remote access from anywhere in the world.
